Gating Your Town: Admin Features and Settings

As a Town creator or admin, you have the power to customize your digital community to reflect its unique identity and purpose. This guide will walk you through the various ways you can personalize your town's appearance and functionality, including entitlements, channel settings, and permissions.

Gating Towns

1. Token Gating:

   • As an admin you get to decide who can join your Town and what roles certain people can have. You can gate a Town by token in the “Edit Membership” right panel. Choose a token to gate the community with. Currently we have “and” “or” logic to token gating a Town, meaning you can can decide if a member must hold a specific token, multiple tokens, or one out of several tokens you allow. Currently, you can gate by ERC-20, ERC-721, 1155, Gnosis Chain, and by custom entitlements.

     

2. ETH Balance:

   • Gate by specific ETH balance; ie if you hold x amount of ETH, you can join this Town.

     

3. Custom Entitlements and Specific Wallets:

• Gate by custom entitlement or specific wallets. Basically any action with an onchain footprint can be captured and used as an onchain entitlement to gate a Town. Go wild. We’re excited to see what you come up with here:

Gating Channels

1. Admin Channel Permissions:

   • When you create channels, you can decide which members of your Town are allowed in and who has access to read/write/react/redact. In the Channel Info Panel, edit the Channel Permissions to select the roles and members you’ll allow in:

   

   

Custom Roles

• Create custom roles beyond the default ones (e.g., moderator, contributor)
• Assign specific permissions to each role.
• Decide who get access to each role.
