Joining existing towns is a great way to connect with like-minded individuals and explore diverse communities within the Towns platform.
Finding Towns to Join
- Check Recommendations:
- Check our X feed for community suggestions based on your interests or connections.
- Ask for Recommendations:
- See if your friends or communities you’re part of are using Towns. If not, start one up!
Joining a Town
- Check Join Requirements:
Membership Tiers
- Towns has three membership tier settings that are admin-controlled. They are:

Write - full permission to read messages, write to them, and react to them.

React - ability to react to messages with emojis, but not write responses or messages.

Read - ability to read, but not entitled to write or react.
- Members with read or react only entitlements will see “You don’t have permission to send messages in this channel” in the messaging bar, shown below 👇
Getting Started in a New Town
- Introduce Yourself:
- Look for a welcome or introduction space to post about yourself.
- Read Pinned Posts:
- Check for important announcements or guidelines pinned at the top of spaces.
- Explore Channels:
- Familiarize yourself with different areas of interest or topics within the town.
- Observe Community Norms:
- Spend some time reading posts and comments to understand the town's culture.
Get Active
- Engage in Discussions:
- Comment on existing posts that interest you.
- Ask questions or share insights to start conversations.
